Insulated Garage Doors
Posted on October 31st, 2009 No commentsI have great memories of my fathers car shop in his garage. We spent hours puttering around there making and doing all sorts of projects. Then, when I got older, we did a father / son car restoration project on a 1967 Mustang. I learned most all I know about cars and engines from those days in my fathers garage. We worked in the garage through most of the winter as the garage was heated and had garage door insulation panels. The memoriest that I have of spending countless hours in that garge are very precious to me. The projects that we worked on and completed there, are still found around the old house. From minor repairs to major projects like finishing out the basement – all were started and worked on in that old garage shop.

Portable Closets: Household Helpers
Posted on October 31st, 2009 No commentsThere is a near infinite amount of items out there that are supposed to make our lives easier in taking care of our homes. From closet organizers to storage units of all shapes and sizes, to robotic vacuum cleaners, if there’s a need for it, it exists. But often, much of these things we can get along without them just fine.
One little item I did pick up recently, after hearing about it from the Portable Closet Guide online, that I find really interesting is this cloth portable closet I got from Target. It allows me to have a mobile closet on wheels. It’s ultra light weight and easy to push (except up the stairs!) and if I wanted to, I could even take it with me on vacation. I use it for the extra storage mostly, but I also use it to transport clothes from the dryer to closet. And if the need ever arises, I have a closet now for any guests that stay at my home!
All in all, this is one household helper item I want to keep!

Web Based Software
Posted on October 30th, 2009 No commentsThese days more and more software services are going online. This means they are becoming web-based applications that you can get access to from any computer with an Internet connection around the world. In addition these types of programs allow you to pay for only the software you actually use. For instance an ASP help desk software program will probably have many features and options that are helpful to you in addition to ones that are overkill depending on your type of business. With a service on demand web-based program you would be able to pick which upgrades the options you actually would like to use, as well as only get charged for the amount of time and amount of data that you use through the program. This means the software can scale as your company scales up and vice versa can be used less when needed.

Information about Maple Tree and Maple Syrup
Posted on October 29th, 2009 No commentsMaple syrup is processed from maple tree saps. It has been said that maple tree can only have a maximum taps of four. Each tap would normally give you about 10 gallons of sap every season. These saps can yield around a quart of syrup. It is easy to tap a maple tree because all you need is to put a hole and put a spout onto it. You can purchase spout in hardware or department stores.
According to people who work at the maple farm, the best time to tap a maple tree is at night when temperature is colder. The season of maples only lasts from four to six weeks and heavy flows of saps can be seen and attained from 10 to 20 days only. The heavy or strong flows of saps are known as the run. The run is said to only last for 20 days maximum.
Thirty to fifty gallons of saps are boiled to produce a gallon of pure maple syrup. People who make candies and sugar boil pure maple syrup for a longer period of time to ensure that it thickens.

Simple Steam Radiators
Posted on October 29th, 2009 No commentsSteam radiators were the first kind of stand alone heating unit used in the homes of middle class individuals. They were first introduced in the 1860′s by a pioneer in plumbing and heating – Joseph Nason. Nason used the principles of steam to create a simple and self-contained system which could effectively heat an entire home. This was much safer than an open fire – the prior alternative. Steam radiators make use of a single pipe which runs from the radiator coils down to the boiler. Water in the boiler is turned to steam, which rises up the pipe and into the radiator coils. As the heat gets absorbed by cast iron radiators and emitted into the room, the steam would cool, condense, and fall back into the boiler where the entire process began again. With this simple and efficient system, Nason provided warmth and comfort to thousands of grateful people.

Quick Audit Surviving Tips
Posted on October 29th, 2009 No commentsNo matter how nervous you are at your IRS audit, do not give out more information than they ask for. If you do this he might think he has not examined your return carefully enough. Name, rank, and serial number as they the military instructs soldiers captured by the enemy.
Do not dress like a poor man or poor woman. This will not help your case. Do not over dress. You do not want to show up the agent. This is a business meeting so dress appropriately. But not expensive jewelry.
No one likes IRS audits. This is a given. But they are part of our system like them or not. But with proper preparation you will come out all right. And remember during tax filing season is when you prepare for an audit. That is, you prepare not to be audited. File the most completed return you can. And back it up with the documentation and IRS codes to support all of your deductions.

Why Use A Cycling Disc Wheel?
Posted on October 28th, 2009 No commentsIf you have been taking part in cycling time trials or triathlons a while then you might have seen some people using a disc wheel on the back of their back, just why do people use disc cycling wheels?
Well the advantage of using a disc wheel have been long understood and to understand why, we need a basic science lesson. A solid rear wheel allows air to pass more easily over it and the easier the air moves over a surface the less drag is caused.
The second thing that you should know about disc wheels is that to get the best out of them you have to ride faster, science has proven that the faster the disc spins, the less turbulance is caused which again leads to better aerodynamics.

The Internet Electric Blind
Posted on October 28th, 2009 No commentsTechnology is always on the move, and it’s always infiltrating new areas that previously weren’t even thought of as technological. It won’t be too far into the future that our houses will be run by computer, the same way our cars already are. You’ve heard about Internet fridges that tell you when you’re running low on milk and allow you to order more online? Well, now we have Internet blinds.
The electric blind is nothing new, it’s been around for quite a few years now, and allows you to swivel the slats on your blind according to how much sun you need in your house, all by the push of a button. Well, now it’s gone one step further. Now you can adjust your blinds from the other side of the world through the use of the Internet. How this could be helpful, I’m not sure, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
