The Best Way To Learn The Guitar
Posted on August 27th, 2010 No commentsWhen you’re first learning to play the guitar it’s quite important to choose some easy guitar songs to play. Trying to master a song that may still be way beyond your skill level will definitely force you to get better, but 9 times out of 10 you will just get frustrated and quit. Let’s try to not let that happen.
A decent song to learn on should be slow to medium paced. That would be 60 to 100 BPM (beats per minute). From that starting point you can always slow the song down even further if necessary and then speed the pace up when you’re ready. It’s essential that you have a metronome when practicing on the guitar. If you can’t play to a beat, you will never develop a rhythm.
Some of my favorite songs to teach beginners are songs from the late 60s and early-to-mid seventies. They have some really straight forward beats and easy to play power chords. A couple of notable songs to mention would be “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple, and “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath.
You should be having fun while you’re learning your new songs. The moment you start to feel frustrated, it’s time to put the guitar away and take a break. Sometimes all you need is a little “mind break” and some fresh air and you go right back to learning your songs refreshed and recharged.
The type of guitar instruments you own will have a genuine effect on the rate at which you learn to play new songs. Guitars with awkward designs or necks will increase fatigue and frustration levels. You want to have a nice comfortable guitar that has a neck that is suited to your hands and playing style.
When you’ve picked some easy guitar songs to play, you’ll have to decide whether you want to learn the songs from reading tablature or real sheet music. Tablature (tabs) shows you the frets, which finger to use and the corresponding string. Sheet music is pure theory and if you haven’t had any formal music lessons yet you may want to skip this method for a while or learn it at your own pace. Tabs are easier but for the long-term success of being a musician you should learn music theory and sheet music sooner or later.
So, go and find yourself some songs to learn, make sure you have a metronome and a quiet place to concentrate and get playing. With some persistency, you’ll be an excellent guitarist before long at all.

Getting Ready to Apply for College
Posted on August 23rd, 2010 No commentsPlanning to apply for college next year? Great! Here’s what you need to know.
In your junior year, you should take the SAT and ACT exams; both of these are supposed to measure how well you’ll do in college. More importantly, high scores will help you get in! Many people take the ACT multiple times to raise their scores. While these aptitude tests are supposed to determine what you’ve learned over years of study, you can still prepare for them; there’s a ton of test-prep material available to help you get ready. This is also the time to really push yourself as far as classes; when you’re applying for college, you won’t have your final grades yet, but you will have your grades from junior year and the first half of senior year. Good grades in challenging classes will make getting in to college a lot easier!
In the spring semester of your senior year of high school, you should fill out the FAFSA; you want to do this as close to the beginning of the year as possible, so try to convince your parents to file their taxes early! The FAFSA, or Federal Application For Student Aid, is required for most scholarships and federal loans; getting it in early gives you the best chance of getting the maximum amount of aid. (Of course, if your parents are billionaires, this step probably doesn’t apply to you; if your parents are famous, you’re probably getting in regardless. Stupid and unfair, but it is what it is.)
Once you’ve taken care of the FAFSA, it’s time to start sending in applications. The sooner you get them in, the sooner you might hear back, which will make planning easier. Additionally, if you’re highly qualified and expect offers from multiple schools, this gives you a chance to let them compete against each other in offering you financial aid. If you’re less highly qualified, you’ll want to get started early so you have plenty of time to spend on the personal essay; an excellent essay can overcome many other obstacles.
In any case, all but the top students will generally want to apply to at least three colleges: the one you expect to go to, a “stretch” school that you’d like to go to but where you don’t think you’ll get in (unless the one you expect is your first choice, in which case you can skip this), and a safety school where you’re guaranteed to get in; that way, if something should go wrong, you’re still ready to begin college in the fall.
Best of luck! Go team!

Online Adjunct Instructors Increase Personal Freedom
Posted on May 12th, 2010 No commentsTeachers with graduate degrees in core academic subjects such as history, English, psychology and math could make a very smart career move by becoming online adjunct instructors. The growth of online bachelor degree programs and online Masters degree programs is by any measure phenomenal, and all projections concerning the future of college student enrollment indicates an almost vertical rise in the number of new and returning college students attempting to earn college degrees online from accredited online college programs.
Interestingly, the benefits of attending an online school in order to earn online education are practically the same for both student and online instructor teaching online college courses. In both cases, the individual acquires a great deal of freedom in terms of personal schedule. Since online learning occurs on the Internet, all online learning can be engaged in from an inexpensive laptop computer capable of picking up a wireless signal; there is no need to partition off time in one’s schedule to travel from home to a traditional college campus. In the case of the online instructor, this benefit is multiplied since it is possible to teach at five or six different colleges online without once having to drive a motor vehicle. However, the benefit to having multiple online classes to teach that is perhaps more important than an open schedule is the technical skill set necessarily arrive at from having to navigate various educational platforms.
For example, there is not just one computer interface used by every online school. Each of the online universities is free to decide which software to use when offering online college classes to their students. If an online adjunct instructor is required to learn two or three different interfaces, such as eCollege or Blackboard, in order to teach in a variety of online college degree program, the end result will be a heightened ability to employ a skill set that will only become more valuable as time goes on. Ultimately, the sharper a teacher’s skill set is in terms of navigating online college courses are better able an instructor is to navigate the application process required to land multiple online adjunct positions with accredited online degree program. Plus, there can be no doubt at this time that college learning online is here to stay and for economic reasons alone will be the mainstay of post secondary education in the foreseeable future.
The increased freedom of an online teaching schedule that can be address at any hour of the day or night combined with an increasingly developed technical skill set makes online adjunct faculty positions well worth the effort required to find them. As can been seen today, the academic physical plants of the past have become far too expensive to maintain and the faculty budgets are being dramatically trimmed to meet the demands of the new economy which insists that more be done with less. The end result will be that more and more college teaching will appear online and online teaching opportunities will continue to grow in number and scope. Any teacher now facing a lay off or a reduction in pay as a result of budget cuts would do well to investigate distance education as a viable, sustainable academic career path that offers greater professional possibilities for increasing one’s income and at the same time increasing one’s personal freedom.

Making Cooking Fun – Cookware Sets for Children
Posted on April 8th, 2010 No commentsIf you think cooking is and should only be done by grown ups, then think again. Are you not taking away a lot of fun and learning from your kids? Yes, its true that children should not be preparing 12 course dinners, but getting introduced into the kitchen, doing little snacks for themselves or friends with the proper safety measures can be quite a fun activity for children and a huge learning exercise in the art of cooking.
Start with giving them tasty snacks and sauces encouraging them to do it on their own. Teaching a child how to cook is one thing but motivating them to do it sometimes as a practice is tough since you have to motivate them enough and make the entire thing a lot more fun than all the another options they have like playing computer games, etc.
Getting fun cookware sets for your children is one of the most effective ways to get them hooked to cooking. Sit on the computer and click away for a few minutes to the world of children cookware set options from various catalogs and online store guides so as to give yourself a good idea regarding the availability, price range, available options, etc. Analyze what your child likes the best. Is it some cartoon characters? Is it some brightly colored motifs and patterns? Is it based on a theme of a movie? And thereafter go shop for it. Market surveys and customer feedback reports almost all the time point out to the fact that Disney theme or cartoon characters on cookware sets are a huge hit with children. Having pots and pans with his/her favourite cartoon character on top or within are a sure way to make any kid wanting to go to the kitchen, pick up the favourite pot in making some snacks.
Moreover, ancillary stuffs aprons, a chef’s cap, utensils, gloves, etc all bearing the same cartoon character or maybe your kid’s favorite car goes a long way in keeping your child’s interests in the culinary field. So what are you thinking about? Go get a daffy duck apron if you want to taste a delicious sandwich by your kid!
You can also teach your kids how to operate a red microwave.

You Can Learn Any Language – Japanese
Posted on March 26th, 2010 No commentsDon’t learn Japanese, it’s too hard! It is impossible for someone who didn’t grow up in Japan to ever be fluent!
Sometimes claims like these can make it pretty discouraging to consider learning a new language, especially one that does not use the roman alphabet and has thousands of Chinese characters instead. Although some of the claims have some truth to them – it is definitely difficult, it will take time and dedication – learning a language like Japanese is possible with the right approach.
A good first target are the alphabets. There is some disagreement among teachers about how this should be approached, but one great method is with a system called Remembering the Kanji that organizes the 2042 most used kanji in a way that lets each successive character build off the knowledge gained from the previous ones. With this technique, you can emerge from the studies a few months later knowing the meaning and stoke order of over two thousand characters. I can promise that with this knowledge in hand the Japanese language will be much less frightening.

Learn Japanese
From this point onwards it becomes a question of learning vocabulary and grammar in the most efficient and fun way possible. This will definitely have a lot to do with personal preference, but a terrific way of picking up both of these is by surrounding yourself as much as possible with things related to Japanese. This could range from using the best One Piece wallpaper you can find as your computer background to replacing all of your English books in movies with books and movies in Japanese.
Each of these actions will bring you one step closer to your goal by bringing you closer to one more vocabulary word or grammatical rule. In addition, it is a rewarding way to learn the language because in essence you are learning the language the same way a native speaker does. After coming home from work, instead of watching TV in English to unwind, try watching a movie in Japanese. Instead of putting up a normal poster or picture try hanging a Japanese scroll design on your wall. Not only will these be relaxing in the same way that watching regular television or looking at a normal picture would be, but you can also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are bettering yourself by learning a language.
The main message to keep in mind is that learning the language is definitely possible. Continue to look up methods of how to go about conquering the challenge, but now is always the best time to dive in. Each vocabulary word you collect and each kanji stroke order you master will bring you one step closer to your ultimate goal. As long as you want this goal badly enough, it is a destination you will eventually reach.

Job Search Help for Entry Level Candidates
Posted on January 27th, 2010 No commentsIn today’s economy finding a job is a full time job in and of itself. You have to be able to have patience, persistence and determination. In a sluggish economy it can especially be tough on accounting entry level jobs. When revenue is down there is not as much of a need for extra people in accounting. In sales it can be different. Companies may actually boost their sales department in a downturn in order to try to produce more revenue. If you are just starting your career in accounting, take hope. Here are three things you should do.
1. Improve Your Resume – You need to have a targeted accounting resume for the open position posted. You have to target the resume specifically to the job. Firms no longer hire generalist for their open jobs. They want specialist. You have to be able to paint yourself into the position to be successful. use the same verbiage that the job description does and really try to speak directly to the hiring manager.
2. Talk with Everyone – we can have a tendency to believe that only certain people hold the right powers and are able to help us in our job search. What most of us fall to remember is that everyone knows someone. Even people who are not related to accounting whatsoever might be able to land you that job you have been looking for. Remember this important principle your whole career: people buy on the approval of others. A good recommendation can go far.
3. Keep Your Head Up – It is easy to take a job search personal. You face rejection after rejection after rejection and wonder if things are ever going to go your way. It will in time but you have to become the right person to gt hired. If you walk into that interview feeling defeated, then that is exactly how you will come across. Companies hire people with energy.

Get Better Grades in Life
Posted on November 5th, 2009 No commentsIt is not an extraordinary thing when we see many students have problems at school, either academic problems, behavior problems, or even personal problems. Those problems will influence their self performance. And just like disease, it also can spread among others who are around them and influenced by them.
Based on my experiences, we have to be in balance, balance means we do not need to be totally serious and we do not need to be so relaxed that we quit caring about results. It is very important to strive to achieve a balance in our lives. For sure we will have problems thorough our life but face it calmly, and in balance. It is normal to face challenges. We have to adapt overcome and realize that it is part of life. We have to enjoy it when we can.
School is a place full of memories; we can ask our parents, teachers, and any other person older than ourselves about this fact. They miss their school time no matter how long ago that was. When you are there, or anywhere in your life, do your best. Just remembering this can help you to get better grades or achieve more in any endeavor.

The maze of unemployment claims
Posted on October 30th, 2009 No commentsIf the employment is your primary source of income, then you know how important it is to keep your job. Not every one can run their own business and earn a living. Let’s be honest, it is simply not practical. For the rest of us, job is precious the thought of unemployment could be a nightmare. Experts advise that employees should keep up to date with the happenings and the trends in their field, so that you have an idea if your job is in the line. At the same time, when the unfortunate things happen, you should be prepared.
Filing for unemployment benefits is no easy job by any means. Prepare Yourself For Student Loans
Posted on October 12th, 2009 No commentsYou don’t know how much money you need for college. You don’t even know what type of student loan is right for you. So many to chose from. So many factors to consider.
Your first step in understanding, unraveling, and demystifying this student loan game is to talk with a student loan lender. Ask questions. Get answers. Don’t leave until your satisfied, until you know what your getting into.
Even if you do know how much tuition will be, there are still other expenses you will incur. How bout books? Lab fees maybe? Something you may want to consider adding to your student loan amount is food and gas. The point is, make sure you include all expenses that you will incur for school that you cannot pay for yourself.
Read Aaron’s article about student loan consolidation rate.

Reading Travel Books
Posted on September 30th, 2009 No commentsHave you ever browsed the travel books section at your local Borders or Barnes and Noble? I’m ashamed to admit that my first foray digging through those not so dusty tomes at Borders was no more than just a couple days ago. What struck me wasn’t the shear number of travel books out there but rather how many different TYPES of travel books there are laying about those shelves. Sure there are the typical guide books, the Lonely Planets and the Frommers, that purport to tell you where all the interesting stuff to look at is but there are books on general planning, books on travel by bike, by car, by train, by plane, by rv. It’s staggering how much information is just sitting there on those shelves waiting to help show you the world. Then there are my personal favorites: the travel narratives. Sometimes dramatic, but more often than not, these are the lighthearted looks at culture clashes the world over and nearly always constitute an enjoyable read…if only to laugh at someone else’s misery.
