What to look for when Choosing Gazebo Spare Parts
Posted on June 23rd, 2010 No commentsIf you want a higher quality gazebo structure, you may need to purchase some great gazebo parts to construct such. A gazebo is a wonderful structure to have in your back yard; it is very much like a pavilion that can also be found in places such as gardens, large public areas and parks. It’s amazing to note that gazebos are structures that can be roofed, open on some; if not all the sides, as well as they can be attached to a garden wall or freestanding. Whatever designs of a gazebo that you choose, it doesn’t affect the gazebos ability to provide a perfect and beautiful resting place and some well needed shelter from the rain, sun or snow. Additionally, gazebos are popular structures such as kiosks, follies, rotundas, pagodas, which are great for those hot and sunny days in the summer time. Let’s look at some features of the parts that you need to make a higher quality gazebo structure.
Durability Feature – First and foremost, you will need to purchase the best quality parts for your gazebo that won’t break or be easily destroyed. The truth is the parts that you choose to build your gazebo or the parts that are used to construct your purchased Gazebo should be of high quality. This is because the structure will face many different types of climatic changes and therefore will need to be extremely durable to withstand the toughest of climatic conditions. If you already own a gazebo, but the structure is overwhelmed by excessive wear and tear, you may well need to consider getting some strong and sturdy replacement parts for your gazebo, to fortify the structure against weather conditions.
The Right Parts for the Right Price – When you are looking for high quality gazebo parts, you will need to bear in mind that top quality parts are usually on the expensive side. This is because the right parts for your gazebo will not break easily and will fit perfectly into your gazebo. Now, sometimes your gazebo will come with some spare parts that you can use to do any repairs if needed. However, in most cases you will have a Gazebo with no spare parts, in these cases all you need to do is get in contact with the supplier so as to buy the correct parts for your Gazebo structure.
Enhance the Appearance of your Gazebo – When choosing spare parts for your Gazebo, you will definitely need to look for those parts that will enhance and improve the present appearance of the structure. Instead of purchasing a new structure, which can be extremely expensive, you could buy the spare parts that will make your gazebo look brand new. You don’t have to settle with an unsightly gazebo in your back yard, get the high quality parts at affordable prices online and renovate your gazebo structure. You will definitely get your neighbors’ eyes turning to look at your beautiful and well kept gazebo. Finally, when you have the right parts, which are durable, sturdy and weather resistant, you will be able to enhance your gazebo, making your back yard a lot more comfortable than before.

Garden Decorating with Extra Large Outdoor Rugs
Posted on June 21st, 2010 No commentsPeople who live in independent houses are extremely lucky because they get an outdoor, sit-out area all to themselves. However, those who have an apartment with a fair-size balcony can still make use of the following decorating ideas. Rugs for outdoor areas can really help spiffy up an outdoor space.
Rugs are one of the most versatile of all decorating accessories and can work wonders for a dull-looking patio or outdoor entertainment area. It is definitely not a good idea to put natural fiber rugs outside, like wool rugs. Synthetic rugs make great outdoor rugs and they are created to withstand the external elements.
Extra large outdoor rugs can always be used as accent pieces or simply to take up space on a big patio. The underlying principle here is comfort and these rugs provide just that. When selecting a rug for the outside area, make sure to choose cheerful designs and bright colors to give life to the area. Outdoor seating is usually wicker or some other wooden chairs or benches and these bright rugs will really bring life to plain furniture.
It is important to make sure that the rug is made from good material and is mildew-proof. It is usually a good idea to choose rugs made from polypropylene; it has the ability to withstand harsh elements. Stay away from rugs that are not meant to be put outdoors; they will only get ruined. Go for a flat, weave rug that will allow the rug to lay flat on the floor without the danger of it tripping someone.
Rugs that can be cleaned off by using the garden hose are always a great option. Always have a budget in mind before you go shopping and don’t overspend. There are plenty of choices when it comes to rugs so make sure to select the best.

How To Build A Cheap Koi Filter
Posted on June 10th, 2010 No commentsBuilding a cheap but effective koi filter for your valuable ornamental pets is well within reach for the practical hobbyist. It is one way of improving the water quality of your existing fish pond at very lttle extra cost. This is an idea for a koi filter unit that can be installed without adding a bottom drain to your pond and without the need for a lot of complicated plumbing.
The first item you need is a water tank of the sort used as a header tank for domestic water supplies. You need as big a tank as you can submerge within your pond so that it is not easily visible to the onlooker. This needs to be attached to a submersible water pump so that the inlet passes into the tank and continues in a perforated plastic pipe along the bottom of the tank. The tank is then filled with gravel – 20mm graded gravel used for drainage ditches or gravel drives can be bought in a 1 ton bag from your local builders’ merchants for $50 – enough for half a dozen of these filters! It is easier to put some gravel into the koi filter to sink it into position and then add the remainder.
The tank does not need a top so can be left open for the water to be sucked in and downwards, through the pump and then back into the pond – via a fountain or waterfall if so desired. This filter is very simple and easy and can be built for the cost of the pump, tank and gravel. If you buy two water tanks and have them side by side, one can be cleaned out every couple of months allowing the other to keep working. The gravel will act as both bio filtration media and also take sediment and debris out of the water mechanically.
If your pond is deep enough to take these filters – a 200 liter water tank is less than 2 feet high – they will operate completely unobtrusively. It is possible to dig out a sump for such a filter within the pond, unless you have a pond liner fitted. A great bonus is that there will be no sound from the submerged pump other than the desirable trickle of the water returning to the pond (if you want this – otherwise it can return beneath the surface silently). The koi filter will improve the quality of your water substantially – and there is always the great satisfaction of using gear that you have made yourself!

Beautiful Plants For Ponds Are Easy To Grow
Posted on June 8th, 2010 No commentsOne of the best ways to beautify ponds is to use aquatic plants. Plants for ponds can be purchased at nearly every nursery as well as online.
Water lilies are some of the most popular plants for ponds. There are over 70 different species of water lilies. These species are divided into two categories: tropical and hardy. The flowers of tropical lilies will bloom either day or night. Hardy lilies only bloom during the day. Also, blue flowers only come from tropical lilies. Comanche, Indiana, Virginia, and James Brydon are all examples of hardy lilies. Panama Pacific, Shirley Bryne, and August Koch (which has lovely blue flowers) are three examples of tropical lilies. Water irises and water lotuses are other popular aquatic plants.
Caution should be used before planting. Some aquatic plants, such as the umbrella palm and the sweet flag, can only grow in shallow water and/or shade. Make sure your pond is not much deeper than two and a half or three feet before purchasing plants such as this.
There are several types of aquatic plant, often called oxygenating pond plants, that are used to help keep your pond water clean. These plants are not, by any means, built for looks. They are always completely submersed and, therefore, rarely develop flowers. However, they convert the carbon dioxide in the water into oxygen thereby keeping the water clearer. They also help to stop the growth of algae which can rob the water, soil, and other plants of key nutrients. Also, because these plants keep the water clean and cut down on unwanted plants and/or bacteria, they can greatly reduce the chances of your pond developing unpleasant odours. These plants also provide a wonderful habitat for fish, frogs, and tadpoles.
One of the most popular varieties of this plant is cabomba. Cabomba is almost guaranteed to grow and perform well provided that it is not placed in the shade. Another popular variety is vallisneria better known as eelgrass or jungle val. Jungle val will grow well in nearly every mild climate and in either shade or sun. However, it has very large leaves and is a bit invasive and, therefore, may not be suitable for very small ponds.

Selecting The Right Size Portable Greenhouse
Posted on June 7th, 2010 No commentsIf you’ve ever wanted to grow your own flowers, plants, or vegetables, then you know that the best way to maximize your chances of cultivating them properly would be to grow them in a green house. Such an enclosure would allow you to maintain and control the ideal environment for your chosen plants all year round. Greenhouses may appear to be the exclusive domain of the wealthy or the hardcore enthusiasts with the sprawling lawns and backyards to accommodate them. Fortunately, the advent of the portable greenhouse means that anyone with a passion for plants and a little spare space can get to enjoy all the perks and benefits of having their very own enclosed place to grow stuff.
One of the first things you’ll have to decide is how big you’ll want your greenhouse to be. The main factors to consider would be what kind of plants you’ll be growing, and how much available space you have. Larger plants will require a larger floor area, which in turn will require more equipment such as heaters, ventilators, and benches to put the plants on. Portable greenhouses can be as small as pellet green houses, which are about as large as handheld trays with sections resembling that of an egg carton. These come with a transparent plastic lid, and are used to germinate seeds before they are transferred into a more permanent location such as a pot or in a garden. These pellet green houses require no more space than a window ledge to expose the seeds to sufficient amounts of sunlight. Larger portable greenhouses come in kits and can usually be assembled and disassembled easily without the need for tools. These structures somewhat resemble tents, but with walls that are made either of a special woven polyethylene sheeting or rigid polycarbonate panels. There are kits that can be “added on” to an existing structure such as a shed or garage, and others that can stand on their own. These units can have floor areas upwards of 100 square feet, and are available in different shapes and configurations, giving you a great deal of choice and flexibility.

How to Organize Your Garden Tools
Posted on June 6th, 2010 No commentsHave you found that your gardening equipment is unorganized and in desperate need of help? If so, I have a perfect solution to helping you get your garden tools organized. If you would take the time to organize your tools, equipment and supplies, you will soon come to realize that you will be able to find things easier, and will keep your tools from being damaged.
I think every garden could benefit from a garden tool organizer. It seems that most people have items that need some organizing. Such things as, garden tools, both large and small varieties, hoses and extension cords, automotive tools and equipment, cleaning supplies, and many small items like nails, screws and bolts that always seem to be disorganized.
A garden tool organizer comes in many styles. Most of them are usually wall mounted or come in a free standing storage form. The wall mounted types can be purchased beyond the standard shelves, or board and peg designs. There are some really neat organizers available both on line and in yard and garden stores. They come in many price ranges, and usually have some easy to install directions, to make sure that you can easily put up your organizer and get it going as soon as possible.
The wall mounted types are the most common ones. They go directly onto the wall itself. Some of the more heavy duty types will require screws instead of nails to hang them on. Screws always do a better job since they are screwed in and can’t just slide out as nails can do.
The best ones that I have seen are the all-in-one designs. The whole system hangs on the wall and has pockets that allow you to place different sized items into each pocket or compartment. The larger types of equipment will usually be placed into the bottom pockets and will also help hold the organizer down.
The free standing types may consist of compartment that have wheels attached. It also has compartments for larger items to stand up making it easier to get them in and out of the organizer.

Types of Grow Lights
Posted on May 21st, 2010 No commentsThere are many types of grow lights available on today’s market. What type you need depends on several factors. What are you wanting to do? Are you planning on using the light for? In other words the types of lights varies, depending on what they will be used for. If you want to grow plants indoors you may want to invest in an LED grow light with a lifespan of more than 10,000 hours. You will need to find one that is large enough to grow a small or medium sized garden. If you have more than one garden you can combine your gardens into one, saving you both money and time. Some grow lights may not work well with what you are doing. You need one that will give off adequate heat, but not too much. You will also need one that is warm to touch. Avoiding accidents, and promoting safety is essential, when choosing appliances.
If you are a single person and only wants to grow one or two plants you only need one small lamp type grow light. You can place your plant(s) directly under your light. This size is also perfect if your apartment or house is really compact and you just don’t have the extra space for anything bigger. If you are a family person, and want to save money on vegetables, and groceries, then of course, you need the large grow light. It costs pennies to operate and can save you money in the long run. The money you pay on vegetables can be used to pay another bill. When you go shopping for the right LED grow light be sure you choose one that you are happy with. What you pay for your light depends on what size you purchase. Indoor gardening can be fun and enjoyable.

Cutting your Lawn to a Professional Look
Posted on May 9th, 2010 2 commentsLawn care can get complicated if you don’t know how to cut your grass properly. There are some things you can pay attention to if you want to make your yard look like it is professionally cut. Cutting lawns is an art form. Even if you don’t put a lot of lawn feed on your grass you can make it look better than your neighbors.
Everyone has their own way to cut grass, but to make your lawn look like you paid a few more dollars to get it cut then there are a few steps to make it look great.
First step is to get your lawnmower blades sharpened. If you don’t then the grass will not cut as well, and might leave your grass prey to disease and will rip each blade of grass instead of cutting it.
The quickest most efficient way to cut grass and make your house look like a million dollars is to always start cutting around the perimeter of the grass in a clockwise manner letting all the grass out of your chute move inward so as not to put grass on your driveway or sidewalk, as a matter of fact you could even go two times around to at least ensure a clean sweep.
The one thing you should remember is to remember the phrase” always follow the light”. Every time you cut your grass you should follow the same direction that the mower traveled last week. How do you ensure such a precision cut? Simple, just follow the white mower lines. To be precise they are really not white but they will have a lighter color then the lines next to them. When you cut your grass you will be laying the blades of grass in a certain direction. Initially the first cut will not be that evident, it is very subtle, especially after a weeks wait. You will see a subtle green color vs darker green. When you cut you grass a week later you have to concentrate to follow our previous lines especially when you are looking for the lighter color. When cutting you will see the difference in color as time progresses. Each week the colors will become more apparent, the darker green will become darker and the lighter green will become lighter.
Cutting around trees, wooden sheds or any object in your lawn is as important as cutting the perimeter. When you cut around a large wooden shed , a tree or a flower bed you will find that on your return later you might forget the cutting rules. When coming to a tree you need to resist the urge to cut against the grain in the grass. Always move to the left of the tree or object the wrap around and meet your line on the other side. This will ensure a look like the mower has been cutting straight through the tree and make your lawn consistent in design.
The importance of being exact on the direction of the white lines is very important because if you don’t you will find yourself losing the contrast. If want to pursue this type of cut you need to make sure that you are cutting as straight as you can, because you don’t want to wander into the other lanes of cut. Sometimes its easier to cut your grass on an angle to keep your cuts straight because starting on a corner is easier then trying to follow along straight line along the driveway vs a short line on the edge. When cutting on an angle your longest cut line will be in the center, which will be longer then cutting straight up and down parallel to the driveway, at this time you need to be very careful not to cut crooked.
Cutting crooked lines is common. It is nothing to be frustrated about. The first line of cut is the toughest so you will find that it is harder to keep straight, especially if you have never attempted this type of cut. The good news is that the cut can be straightened with every cut you make each week. Its a discipline and rewarding when you look at the finished lawn that looks like you have a professional lawn care service.

Best Garden Decor Ideas – A Gazebo Tent will Change your Outdoor Experience
Posted on December 20th, 2009 No commentsAre you thinking of adding a gazebo tent to your garden? It is definitely one of the best garden decor ideas as gazebo tents serve several purposes when it comes to both functionality and decoration.
These types of tents are great for any outdoor event. From wedding receptions to just planning “a day out” in the garden, the tent will offer shade outdoors any time as well as being particularly good for the children considering the dangers of UV sun rays. The tent will also add color and style to your outdoor area; summer is ideal for displaying vibrant colors in the garden so choose one that matches the rest of the garden decor. Your tent will also serve as a place where the whole family can play games, sit around for meals and also as a bar.
The structure of a gazebo tent consists of the sidewalls, the awning and the base (usually a spider shaped frame) with push in connectors and velcro attachments. There are many brands in the market; you should consider what do you want your gazebo tent for (weight could be a big issue). Also they come in different materials, the two most popular being steel and aluminum (generally powder coated frames). They are highly resistant to rain and strong weather conditions in general but it is advisable that you store your tent when not in use (also during the winter period).
Two of the most popular sizes are the 3x3m and 3x6mas it they are easily portable (larger tents are more difficult to erect) and prizes can vary from $200 to $450. You might be able to find cheaper tents online but make sure you get full instructions when ordering. Portable gazebo tents are also great for promotion in fairs, exhibitions, markets and general recreation.
Nowadays, many of the gazebo tents are manufactured in China but sold by many large films in the U.S. and Europe (King Kanopy, WS, EzUp and Wanda Canopies).
Don’t miss out on the advantages that gazebo tents can give you. They will change the whole way you think about garden entertainment.
