There are a couple of essential tools you absolutely must have when fishing for Pike. These are unlike any other fresh water game fish out there. They are incredibly strong, have long teeth up to an inch and ½ long, make long deep dives and are sure to give your arms a work out. To be successful you must match your Pike fishing tackle to the strengths of the fish. These fish are monsters and attack baits rather than simply bite them. The current world record is an astonishing 55 lb monster caught in Germany in 1986, and while there have been plenty of threats to the throne, this one remains the biggest confirmed Pike caught to date. So, what’s needed when going after this incredible freshwater game fish?

Pike Fishing Tackle: Heavy Tackle, Rod, Reel, and Line

When it comes to fishing for Pike, it’s an absolute must to have that heavy action rod. Typically the rod length should be about 7 to 8 feet in length, well made and durable. The reel should have a line capacity of 150 to 200 yards and able to spool up to 15 to 20 lb test line. The best pike fishermen can get away with 10 or 12 lb line and still catch the fish with the right drag setting, but it’s best to ensure you match the line’s weight with the rod and lure you’re fishing with.

Wire Leaders and Stainless Steel Protective Gloves are a Must

Because so much of the Pike’s allure is its ability to thrash and make long runs, wire leaders are an absolute must. Pike have extremely long teeth that can easily tear apart even the heaviest of lines. Once you finally land that monster, make sure to have a good set of stainless steel protective gloves. Many fishermen have been bit by a Pike simply not willing to give up long after they’re in the boat or on shore.

Spoons, Deep-Diving Crankbaits, and Imitation Minnows for Bait

Perhaps the two most recognized Pike lures in the world are the Red-Devil and Five of Diamonds Spoons and they are both highly recommended by outdooradventuresguide.com. However, equally effective are deep-diving crank-baits, and world renowned minnow imitations like the Rapala minnow. Other popular baits include large spinners by Mepps & Blue Fox.

When it comes to fishing for monster Pike, success is all about matching your Pike fishing tackle to fish’s strengths. These are big fish with even bigger appetites, so don’t be afraid to use large lures.

If you like to spend a lot of time with nature then there is nothing better than the trailer tents. They provide sufficient comfort and are almost like a full sized camper. These tents have awnings which allow you to increase the space of the trailers by two or three folds and enhance the camping experience. The features of the tents depend on the model. But most of them have some common features like the kitchen, bed and awnings.

One of the most important camping gears is your food. It can either be packaged food or raw materials to prepare food by yourself. In case you have decided to prepare your own food, trailers are very useful because they have basic kitchen with 2-3 burner stoves, small fridge, a sink etc. This is very convenient when you have the essentials items to cook. If you want to stay overnight you need to have a good resting place to sleep. These trailers have beds as well. They have comfortable beds off the ground which are dry and comfortable. Sometimes you can find a bathroom inside. If you have more number of people you can use the space provided below the awnings to sleep them.

Awnings are special features that provide extra room to increase the space. They are mostly made of canvas and are water proof. There are different types of these tents. The Coleman tent trailer has two double beds, a dinette, a kitchen and a bathroom. Apart from these they can also provide air conditioning, furnace, an extra room, a boat or bike mount. For having a luxurious camping trip you can choose one such trailer. You can find motorcycle tent trailers which are tents to be folded and attached to the motorcycle and carried anywhere.

Your other option is setting up a regular tent such as a tunnel tent and those are not very comfortable. With the options discussed above you are for sure out of the elements and you will stay dry. With your normal style tent if it rains really hard you may still get wet even inside your tent.

The trailers may cost about $3000 for basic models and up to $15,000 for luxurious ones. In case you want cheaper ones you can also buy the pop up tent trailers which are less expensive upgrades of tents. Also look for used tent trailers for cheap prices. Another option is to hire the trailers from tent trailer rentals to save money.

Dating back over four thousand years, the recurve bow design developed from the longbow as a way to increase the power of the bow while decreasing the length. The addition of the curved limb tips allowed shortening of the bow. This new technology, using simple laws of physics, permitted shooting from horseback, increasing the effectiveness of mounted soldiers. Of Asian origin, this bow design was used by the Huns, Mongols, Scythians and Chinese for hunting and battle. A Native American version existed primarily in western North America.

As this bow was introduced into the European continent, it became the standard weapon used by the Romans. They spread the design across Europe to the British Isles. Early bows were made of composite material, combining different woods with horn or sinew to increase the strength and flexibility of the bow. A rapid decrease in the use of bows and advances in their technology occurred with the invention of firearms.

During the Victorian Era an interest in archery and hunting with bows redeveloped. The rekindled interest in the bow was a result of a popular fascination with Medieval times in England. This marked the advent of the modern era of archery for sport and hunting.

Modern recurve bows of moderate price are mass-produced making them readily available to the archer. The bows are made of laminate composite materials including woods, fiberglass and carbon fiber or foam. Designs are available in single piece bows or takedown style featuring limbs that can be detached for easy transport. The only bow allowed for Olympic use is the recurved. Handcrafted recurves by skilled bowyers use multiple of layers of laminated woods in stunning designs for the risers and the limbs.

Modern bows of recurved design are used by traditional bow hunters for their ease of use in close environments, their power and accuracy. Find out more with Bear recurve bows or Hoyt recurve bow.

Buying camping gear is a big investment and you should carefully consider your budget and goals before making any purchases. You will need to think about the performance of the gear, how long it will last, and what prices you can afford. Not everybody has a large budget for camping gear but a fair deal of money should still be invested in it. You should also look around in as many places as you can to make sure that you find the best kind of gear for your budget.

First you’ll need to consider how often you will use your gear. This should also determine the amount of money you spend on it because if you only camp a few times a year, then you probably should invest large amounts of money in buying elaborate equipment. However, if you are planning on going camping often, then you will need equipment that is very dependable and can be used many times. Regular campers will also need gear that can be used in all seasons. No matter how much you camp, you should still buy gear that can last you for a long time.

Even if you do purchase good camping gear, it is important to remember that many of the items will still need to be replaced regularly. These items that wear down quickly usually aren’t expensive so you may want to purchase the cheapest ones available. This way you can still have the budget to easily replace them when they break down. Other camping items can last for a long time and some items can be passed through generations if kept properly. In order to make your gear last for as long as possible, it is imperative to constantly clean and maintain them after using so they can stay in peak condition all throughout the year.

This guest post comes from Mark who is currently shopping for his second round of camping chairs but who is still on his first tent — a great quality buy.

Have you recently made up your mind to make fly fishing your hobby? If you are certain that this activity is for you and are looking for the perfect outfit, then this article is perfect for you. This write up will give you sensible tips on choosing the right fly fishing outfit and how important it is to have one. By the end of this article, you will surely have a better idea of how to look good and feel good while enjoying your new hobby.

Most of the time, fly fishing beginners are overwhelmed with the wide variety of gear available as soon as they walk in a fishing store. However, picking the right fly fishing outfit is quite easy as long as you keep in mind a few important tips. Picking the right one is very important because accidentally purchasing an outfit that does not suit your needs may discourage you and may cause you to give up on your fishing hobby.

The first consideration you have to make is what kind of fishing you plan to do. If you are someone who does a lot of traveling, but also likes to squeeze in time for your fishing, it is advisable for you to acquire a travel fly fishing outfit. This kind usually come in a 5 section package and has its own hard carrying case making it hassle-free to travel with it. As a beginner, it is always best to stick with a beginner’s fly fishing outfit. This is quite sensible because manufacturers have already taken into consideration that a beginner will use this specific kind and will most likely work for the rookie fly fisher.

The material is also very important. As a rookie, it is quite effective if you opt to have something that is made out of graphite. It is very lightweight and allows for active movements, which is helpful when casting. A beginner’s kit usually has this kind of outfit and includes other stuff needed by starter.

To summarize, if you are a beginner, you can save money and effort by going for the specialized beginner’s fly fishing outfit. This way, you will be comfortable during the learning curve and will make the experience more enjoyable rather than frustrating. Check out Pflueger President or Pflueger Medalist to learn more about fly fishing.

If you are into fishing recreation or would want to try it as a new hobby, choosing the right fishing pole is a very essential consideration because it can help ease the process of fishing making it more enjoyable.

There are two basic types of fishing poles: the traditional rod and the bait casting reel rods. The difference between these two models can be spotted on the guides in whom you thread your line through. Choosing the right rod is extremely important because it will allow you to mange the friction and will allow you to prevent too much tangling on your spool.

If the reel of your fishing rod is bait casting, you must have smaller guides. Make sure to know the different types of guides available in shops because they will help.

You can also choose between fishing rods which are fast action, medium action, and slow action. Being equipped with quick hook sets and sensitivity, fast action rods are slowly gaining popularity in the marketplace. They have stiffer rods which will allow you to use softer strikes to be able to cast farther. However, its disadvantage is that with this there is more possibility that you will jerk the bait out of the mouth of the fish. Once the hook is set, the fishes have more chances of escaping.

On the other hand, slow action rods are characterized by flexibility. They can bend half way of thee entire pole and they are deemed to absorb more blow from the fishes which are trying their best to get off. This is also beneficial because it gives the fish more time to take the bait which will give you more fishes. Moreover, medium action rods are also being popular because they tend to balance the features of the two earlier mentioned rods and are assumed to be the most commonly used fishing pole today.

People must also consider length before buying any fishing rod. To allow easier casting, longer poles are better. Longer poles are also good if you are positioned on the shore and you would want to throw you bait as far as you can. However, shorter poles are recommended if you are fishing in a place where you have to pitch your bait around docks or under piers. Distance must be significantly considered to get the most appropriate poles.

Once you’ve got the right pole, then you can check out northern pike fishing lures.

Camping out with your family, most especially bringing your kids along, is an excellent idea for family bonding. Oftentimes, it will be more enjoyable when you involve your kids in the planning like choosing a campsite, things to prepare, your meals, and other related stuff. Preparing for fun-filled activities that would involve every member of the family is also a good idea. You also have to involve them in some simple chores so that they will really have the feeling of camping in the outdoors. But, despite all the planning and thorough preparation, we often forget a lot of things especially those most important one like all the needed supplies for the kids. The following are some important gear that parents should never forget in planning a camp out with kids.

First up is the first aid kit. Camp outs always happen in the outdoors and your kids will love playing around. Thus, little accidents might occur so it is better that we are ready with all the first aid remedies.

photo credit: AlphaTangoBravo / Adam Baker

Second, insect repellents. Bugs, mosquitoes and other insects are always on campsites that might ruin the camping experience of your kids. So, have your kids wear insect repellents to keep insects away.

Third, sun block creams. Your kids will be out all day playing around the campsite. They might get a perfect tan for this but having skin cancer is indeed a big no. Therefore, sunscreen protection is necessary. You have to consider sunscreen with the highest SPF or sun protection factor.

Fourth, toys and fun-filled activities. We always want the best camping experience for our kids. As much as possible, we want them to enjoy the getaway. They might enjoy getting involved in the preparations and some chores but kids are always kids. They always want to have toys and other activities to play with.

Fifth, extra clothing and shoes. Kids love playing around. Since, they are in the outdoor getting wet and dirty are so easy. So, extras are needed for the kids.

Fifth, snacks and drinks. After playing, kids would love to eat. They even need thirst quenchers for the tiring play day. Therefore, it is necessary to fill your portable freezers with drinks and bring some snacks and have cool camping with mini fridges. So, never forget your 3 way camping fridge because after a long play day kids will look for something to drink and eat.

Sixth, warm clothing. Outdoor campsite especially on summer might be hot on the day but when night comes it is going to be different. Outdoors are hot on the day but chilly at night. So, kids might get cold.

Seventh, pillows, blankets, stuffed toys and dolls. These are some familiar bedtime gears needed for your kids. Do not forget to bring also sleeping pads for the campground might be rocky. We always look for comfort in sleeping.

Lastly, flashlights, headlights, and luminous sticks. Outdoors are dark at night. Since, kids are not used to camping out, so, they should have something that will relieve their dark fears.

If you are a hunting enthusiast then you may consider buying a hunting knife. There is a wide range of hunting knives from which you can choose. Most popular brands of these include Bowie, Buck and Bushman. The knives come in different models too. Some people like to use a folding knife, pocket knife and some are comfortable with fixed blades etc. Some knives cost about $100 while some can be bought for a much lesser price. If you are not sure how to purchase a hunting knife, here are a few tips to guide you.

First make sure of the purpose. Are you one of those who spend most of time in the woods skinning and gutting the game or are you just a weekend enthusiast? If you will not be using this all the time then you can buy a folding knife. But if you want to use one regularly then buy the straight hunting blade knife. It should have a good quality sheath and can be attached to your belt for easy access.

Consider the length of the blade. If it is for hunting and fishing you can get knives that have hooks at the end of the blades. There are blades with serrated side for sawing small trees. Knives with pointed blades are good for cutting and piercing and a wide blade good for skinning and carving. Look for blades made of stainless steel. They are rust proof and strong. Also see if the grip of the knife is comfortable.

Other kinds of knives you can consider are the custom hunting knives, Benchmade knives or a Buck 110 Folding Hunter knife. If you are a knife collector and would like to know about the different kinds of hunting knives you can browse the Internet for reviews. You will get a lot of information on everything you need to know about knives.

One of the most important things to have access on when camping out is hot water. This is where portable propane water heaters come in the picture. It is a given fact that it can be very impractical to bring along a pot and heat water on it by putting up a fire, especially when campers need large quantities of hot water. Usually campers have to re-heat the water, thus, wasting a significant amount of the gas or energy source. This method also poses a security risk especially when there are children brought along for the out-of-town trip. The good thing is that there are portable water heaters that campers can rely on for their hot water requirements.

Portable water heaters not just give hot water to campers, but it also brings a lot of advantages to typical homeowners. For one, there is no need to bring in hot water from a built-in water heater to the outside of the house when performing tasks like cleaning the patio during colder climate. Through portable propane water heaters, one can also do cleaning and cooking tasks outdoors without having to carry enormous amounts of hot water.

There are also portable water heaters that are designed to heat a good amount of water (some up to 5 gallons). All one needs is to connect the hose to the heater and then set the desired water temperature. Furthermore, most portable propane heaters come with rechargeable batteries, so there is no concern on the possibility of the power supply from diminishing. Likewise, most these heaters are very lightweight, and can be easily carried from one place to another.

But despite these benefits, there are still some disadvantages in using portable propane heaters. For one, they are way more expensive than electric water heaters. There are also some hazardous units that can pose security risks, so always be on the look out for a certified-safe portable propane water heater.

Little boys love to go camping with their families, especially their dads. To keep the spirit of adventure going camouflage bedding is the ideal bedroom decor for the youngster. While many of the army camo bedding is created from flannel, there are cotton sheets and pillow cases available for the warmer months.

For the young man who is interested in becoming a cub scout or a boy scout, the camouflage colors for the bedroom will serve as a reminder of his goals. Boy scouts have the opportunity to spend nights under the stars, camping and singing around a campfire. Get him in the mood with his very own set of sheets and pillow cases in the pattern and colors of camouflage.

Camouflage Bedding

Many school age boys have daybeds in their rooms. Today there are wonderful sets of camouflage daybed bedding that are specifically designed for the twin size daybed. Keeping the colors and patterns within the theme, the fitted covers are easy for the youngster to make up in the morning before heading off to school or camp. At the same time, the decor is suitable for friends coming over to enjoy a pretend camping trip.

While much of the camouflage bedding is in the army colors and patterns, it is worth mentioning that there is bedding in the familiar pattern that comes in pinks and other lighter colors for girls. The young ladies may not be ready for an outdoor camping trip, but even the most feminine of girls will certainly enjoy a pink or blue camouflage pattern in her room.

Parents will love the colors and patterns that are available for summer. The lighter weight of the cotton sheets will work as well for the warm months as the flannel camouflage patterns and colors worked during the winter months when heavier sheets and comforters were required. What a wonderful opportunity camouflage bedding offers for year round comfort and style!
