The LEGO name comes from Danish words meaning “play well” and originated in 1932 in Denmark in the workshop of carpenter. The predecessor of LEGOS, called automatic binding bricks, came into existence in 1949 but the actual term “LEGO brick” wasn’t used until 1954. The popularity of LEGOS spread throughout Europe first and then the United States and Canada. By 1961 there were fifty sets of LEGOS, fifteen vehicles and numerous other loose sets. By 1964, instructions were included with sets. The number of LEGO sets contines to increase. DUPRO was started in 1967 and mini figures with movable limbs came into existence in 1978.Interest in LEGO playsets spans all age groups from babies to adults. For babies, there is LEGO Baby. LEGOS are construction toys manufactured by the LEGO group, a company in Billund, Denmark. LEGOS consist of colorful plastic interlocking bricks that can be assembled, taken apart and reassembled into something else. In addition to the plastic LEGO bricks, there are accessories like beams, axles, gears, motors, lights, sensors, cameras, mini figures and more. LEGOS today are still compatible with the LEGO brick patented in 1958.
