Most of the women experience acne outbreaks during first trimester of pregnancy.  Pregnancy acne is mainly attributed to the fluctuating hormonal levels which cause increased oil secretion by the sebaceous glands. While whiteheads and blackheads are very common during pregnancy, some women even get pimples and pustules.

Pregnancy acne usually regresses as the pregnancy improves. This is due to the increased estrogen production later in the pregnancy. As the acne is caused by hormonal imbalance, prevention of acne is not possible. However, if a pregnant woman wants to treat her acne using commercial products, it is always recommended to consult a doctor.

Washing the face twice daily with lukewarm water is the best way to control the flare ups of acne. Regular exercise, consumption of plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and fluids help to control acne outbreaks to some extent during pregnancy.

Even the most beautiful person can be made to feel very ugly due to the ravages acne causes to the adolescent face. Billions of dollars are spent annually on acne prevention and cure.

Adolescent acne is the most common form of acne. Although, acne is far from reserved for the young. It is a little known fact that even babies sometimes have acne, along with middle-aged people and senior citizens. However, there is one form of acne that is specific to pregnant women. Like adolescent acne, pregnancy acne is produced by the change in hormones. This explains why women who have never had a single problem with acne are bewildered when, once they become pregnant, along with their coming bundle of joy, they are presented with a bad case of acne.
