  • Simple Steam Radiators

Steam radiators were the first kind of stand alone heating unit used in the homes of middle class individuals. They were first introduced in the 1860′s by a pioneer in plumbing and heating – Joseph Nason. Nason used the principles of steam to create a simple and self-contained system which could effectively heat an entire home. This was much safer than an open fire – the prior alternative. Steam radiators make use of a single pipe which runs from the radiator coils down to the boiler. Water in the boiler is turned to steam, which rises up the pipe and into the radiator coils. As the heat gets absorbed by cast iron radiators and emitted into the room, the steam would cool, condense, and fall back into the boiler where the entire process began again. With this simple and efficient system, Nason provided warmth and comfort to thousands of grateful people.
