The Oklahoma City Thunder: Young Guns Firing
Some time ago a tragedy occurred in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina struck and New Orleans was rocked. Many homes and buildings were destroyed and thousands were left homeless. Katrina destroyed NBA’s New Orleans Hornets home ground as well. This meant that the franchise had to relocate. The Hornets came to Oklahoma for two seasons and enjoyed an unforgettable experience with the locals. Although the move was temporary, it started a new era in Oklahoma.
Once Oklahoma city was alien to competitive basketball. But all that has changed now.
Start of a new era
Naturally when the New Orleans Hornet returned to their home, the basketball scene in Oklahoma took a serious blow. But that didn’t last long. Oklahoma were awarded NBA status in 2008 when Seattle Super Sonics moved here. The Sonics changed their name and became Oklahoma City Thunder. As the aftermath of the merging, Thunders are enjoying some young guns that are ready to fire.
Four young stars
There are four young men who make Oklahoma City Thunder a formidable team. The fans are hoping that this new talent will mix well with the existing talent to produce long term effects. These four men build the rock on which the franchise stands upon:
Kevin Durant – By far the best player in the franchise. At 6’10” Durant stands tall and strong. He is one of the best scorers in NBA at the present time. He is fast, athletic, moves along swiftly. In short he is a complete player who is a nightmare to guard.
Russell Westbrook – Russell Westbrook is the second best player. He is to Durant what Robin is to Batman. Westbrook is used by the head coach Scott Brooks to make plays. He is feared by other teams. His ability to accomplish dunks over bigger opponents sets him apart.
James Harden – James Harden is a young player who is following in the steps of Durant and Westbrook. As the franchise begins to grow, so do his responsibilities.
Serge Ibaka – Serge Ibaka is an emerging player like Harden. His role and importance in the team increases with every game he plays. Ibaka is handling the situation and his responsibility really well.
Some time ago, Oklahoma City Thunders struggled to make it to playoffs. Now they are winning their division titles. This shows a massive improvement. Last year they lost to the eventual champions in the playoffs. They are now looking to win the ultimate prize, the NBA championship.
NBA situation
If you are an NBA fan, you know that there is currently a problem. NBA is barring the players from playing in the games and training at their team’s facilities. This has caused great distress amongst fans as well as players. The basketball never stops and these four heroes with other greats are frequently participating in the charity and friendly games. When the NBA reason resumes, these players will come back stronger than ever. They are constantly in the “game mode”. Many players will be seen in action as they take a world tour through a tournament which is to be organized soon.
